First Selectman Gordon Joseloff, long an advocate of affordable housing in Westport, proposed the first major housing initiative of his administration on Tuesday morning at the Center for Senior Activities.

Shaw's Supermarket, located at 605 Post Road East, will shut its doors and leave Westport just after the year's end and is likely be replaced by The Fresh Market, an 84-store specialty grocer based in Greenboro, North Carolina.
The shopping center in which Shaw's is located is owned by Kowalsky Real Estate. The Kowalsky's are long-time Westport residents who also own a well known construction company called Kowalsky Brothers.

Democrat Jim Himes of Greenwich will be the new U.S. Representative from the Fourth Congressional District, after ousting Republican Christopher Shays from the seat he has held for 21 years. The margin was 57 to 42 percent in the district, which covers all of Fairfield County, including the towns of Westport and Fairfield.

Democrat Joseph Mioli won reelection to a third two-year term in his 136h District (Westport) seat in the state legislature in Tuesday's voting, defeating Republican Nitzy Cohen by a vote of 8,815 to 4,656.

The depth and breath of the love for Paul Newman seems to be deeper than the extraordinary blue of his eyes. The Westport Country Playhouse announced this week that demand was so strong for tickets to his Nov. 22 tribute that three additional evenings have been added to the schedule.
